Authors: Ekong, Godwin
Description: The main objective in site evaluation, which was discussed in this presentation, for nuclear installations in terms of nuclear safety is to protect the public and the environment from the radiological consequences of radioactive releases due to normal operation and accidents.
The regulations applied to the licensing of nuclear installations and licensee direct responsibility for the safety of its nuclear installations was also discussed
Regulations on the safety of siting of Nuclear Installations Regulations on management of Nuclear Radiological Emergency, Regulations on Quality Assurance, Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) Enforcement Regulations, Safety Requirements and Guides, were also discussed in this presentation.2021-01-01T00:00:00ZMeteorologyGodwin, Ekonghttp://elibrary.nnra.gov.ng/jspui/handle/123456789/6442021-04-19T14:42:58Z2021-01-01T00:00:00ZTitle: Meteorology
Authors: Godwin, Ekong
Description: Meteorology is the study of the atmosphere. The presentation talked about atmosphere as the gaseous layer of the physical environment that surrounds a planet, meteorology as a sub discipline of the atmospheric sciences, and a regional climatology as the typical weather and climate of a region.
How climatology focuses on atmospheric changes was also discussed.2021-01-01T00:00:00ZSiting Authorization Process For Nuclear InstallationsAhmed, Danjumahttp://elibrary.nnra.gov.ng/jspui/handle/123456789/6432021-04-19T14:31:34Z2021-01-01T00:00:00ZTitle: Siting Authorization Process For Nuclear Installations
Authors: Ahmed, Danjuma
Description: Site is the area containing the nuclear facility, defined by a boundary and under effective control of the Management. While Siting is the term used to describe the process to select where a nuclear installation is built and whether the decided location is suitable for it. Siting is one of the important decisions in the early stage of a planned nuclear energy project.
The siting process is intended to select suitable locations for the envisaged nuclear installation such that its characteristics are compatible with available engineering protective measures for all natural and human induced hazards arising from external events, so that the necessary level of safety can be achieved.
The selection and evaluation of a site suitable for a nuclear installation are crucial processes. They can significantly affect the costs, public acceptance and safety of the installation. Poor planning and lack of knowledge can lead to faulty decision-making and can cause major delays of the project. Siting is a multifaceted process, involving many types of site characteristics. Those characteristics can affect the safety of a nuclear installation over the whole period during which it is planned, situated, operated, and also demonstrate suitability of the site from a safety viewpoint.
Site Survey, Regional Criteria, Screening Criteria, Ranking Criteria, and Site Evaluation Report were also discussed in this presentation.2021-01-01T00:00:00Z
