The objective of this publication is to disseminate information on the use of PIE techniques to advance knowledge of the irradiation behaviour of research reactor fuels. It discusses the destructive and non‑destructive PIE techniques used to study the irradiation impact of research reactor fuels with increasing uranium densities under the extreme flux conditions typical of research reactor operations. Much of the work presented here was generated by research and development on new low enriched uranium (LEU) research reactor fuels. The PIE facilities and services of a selection of nuclear research centres are identified for reference in this publication.Guidance provided here, describing good practices, represents expert opinion but does not constitute recommendations made on the basis of a consensus of Member States.en_US
