Abstract: The New Safety Standards Series, General Safety Series No. GSR Part 3 issued in 2013 is part of the IAEA Safety Standard Series, which supersedes General Safety Series No. GSR Part 3 (Interim edition) issued in 2011 which itself supercedes now the International Basic Safety Standards No.115 (henceforth referred to as the ‘BSS 115’) issued in 1996. The New BSS draw upon information derived from the experience of IAEA Member States in applying the requirements of the previous International Basic Safety Standards, and from experience in many States in the use of radiation and nuclear techniques. It also take account of the findings of the United Nations Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR) and the Recommendations of the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP).
