Description: The term “severe accident” refers to an event causing significant damage to reactor fuel and resulting from more or less complete core meltdown. Such accidents are highly unlikely in light of the preventive measures implemented by operators. However, they are the focus of considerable research because the release of radioactive products into the environment could have serious consequences. Severe accident is a type of accident that may challenge safety systems at a level much higher than expected. The post-accident surveillance system is composed of analogue measurement channels made of sensors, indicators or recorders etc. providing visual information to the operator. This system shall permit the operator to establish a diagnosis and bring the plant to a safe shutdown state and maintain it there. The safety functions of post-accident surveillance system and their related instrumentation are as follows: Criticality, which is provided by the intermediate range nuclear channels. The primary water inventory, which is provided by the primary water level. The secondary water inventory, which is provided by the steam generator (SG) water level. The steam generator integrity, which is provided by the activity level measurements and the steam generator pressure. The containment status which is provided by the containment pressure and dose rate. Source Term Associated with Severe Accidents was also discussed in this presentation
